Sam Smith covers the NBA Playoffs:
How to beat the Celtics in Game 6
In an already historic series, the Bulls and Celtics found a way to make it even more epic in Game 6, when Chicago outlasted Boston in three overtimes, holding on for a 128-127 victory to tie it up at 3-3 and force a final and deciding game.
Joakim Noah had another monster night on the glass, hauling in 15 boards. But it was his steal and drive to the basket, finished off with a dunk and Paul Pierceâs sixth foul, that put the Bulls up 126-123 with 35.5 seconds remaining in the final overtime.
Rajon Rondoâs putback shot with 23.7 seconds left made it a one-point game, and following Kirk Hinrichâs missed a layup, Boston had an opportunity to take the lead on what could have been their final possession. However, Derrick Rose blocked Rondoâs attempt with approximately eight seconds on the clock to secure the win.
John Salmons led the Bulls with 35 points, 14 of which came in the first quarter when the Bulls sprinted to a 28-15 lead. Rose finished with 28 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
Ray Allen was nearly unstoppable for Boston, pouring in 51 points on 18 of 32 from the field, including 9 of 18 from long range. Glen Davis added 23 points and seven boards.
Game 7 will be played in Boston this Saturday evening at 7 p.m. CT. [/COLOR]
