What would the prize be?
The mod or Ray would also have to determine if they were relevant posts or just random spams trying to win the contest. Which could be difficult. Does Off Topic count?
Making the forums popular again is a difficult task and MC faces an even more difficult task than most forums. Why? Because forums for games generally hold help, that is something that is rarely forthcoming in MC.
People figure out tricks, numbers, etc and keep it to themselves and their friends. This is counterproductive to the forum process yet to some extent does make sense in a game that is sometimes closely contested.
In my opinion there are two things that will begin to make the forums more popular.
1. As Wraith suggested in the other thread (apologies for getting it closed btw) They need to be more prominent in game. A top page link maybe? I don't know, but I think a lot of players don't bother because they don't realize they're there.
2. The players of this game need to start sacrificing some of their tips and tricks. I know I've said this before but I'll say it again. In Topshift everything gets shared almost immediately. Go check out their help forums, peoples questions get answered truthfully and immediately. There is an extensive beginners guide giving away every trick there is to the game, outdated with ver 2.0 going live this month and even still the beta testers wrote another guide right away.
If you want the game and the forums to thrive then you need to give people a reason to come. The old school players are either gone or don't bother anymore and the new players have nothing to gain here. Hence a dead forum.
So that was a little off topic, if you want a forum contest get people to give tips and tricks, then have a panel, mods, Ray and Cres whatever, judge those tips and give a prize based on it's worth to everyone.
