It's not working properly - when you buy certain cars it sets it as a potential crew car, even if you buy it normally. Then when you sell it you lose the cash to 'crew cash'. The 1980 131 Abarth and the 2009 X5 xDrive48i are two examples.
Also, couldn't non members have at least one higher value car available, for pete's sake? I used to buy a membership regularly but I won't until things are working properly and the game is not so skewed. I know i am not the only one who feels this way.
I bought all these cars normally:
