you are missing the fact that the race is determined by r/t + e/t so in the second race it goes like this:
you: 1.404 + 12.350 = 13.754
him: 1.263 = 12.418 = 13.681

he won

Is ok lol, I'm a noob at MC too, but it works that way is Topshift as well.
